The Runaway

My Winston. Someday he will learn much like my children. I'm a mom. I just know. He has a cookie jar with his treats in it. He knows where it is and when I'm going to get into it to give him something.

Yesterday, he decided I had not recognized all the wonderful puppy things he had done and he was OBVIOUSLY missing out. SOOOOOO

He sauntered out to the kitchen, snooted open the door and spent about five solid minutes pushing the lid of the jar with his nose and paw. Once the lid was off enough, he pushed his head inside and tried to reach the cookies.

I was standing behind him. I heard him open the door to the pantry, but I waited patiently.

He got a little stuck in the mouth of the jar when he came up for air with a cookie. MAN! He was PROUD! He moved slowly and quietly. I think if he could have, he'd have put it all back.

But he couldn't and he didn't and he slinked around to eat in secrecy.

He saw me. I believe that the cookie he so desperately wanted at that moment tasted like something I would spank him for if I found it on my carpet....poop? He lowered his head and his tail sunk. His ears drooped and I truly believe he frowned.

"WHAT did youuuuuu dooooooo???" I wagged my finger at him. He dropped the cookie.
"WINSTON!" I barked. Like he would answer me. But deep down I was enjoying this. He looked so sorry and guilty.

Just then the kids came in. They had been pulling their stuff out of my car and had left the door open. (Typical) Winston bolted. Right out the door, out the garage and?

into my car. He sat in his usual spot and refused to get out. I guess I was to drive him around as a runaway? I let him sit there for a while.

I brought him in and put him down. He began the apology dance...you know the one where he drags himself with his front paws and the entire back end is limp? Then he followed me to the couch where he sat next to me and put his paw on my leg. He did this several times; like a pat. So I patted him back.

We're friends again....
He's just too much!
