The buzz about the birds and the bees.

My daughter asked me WEEKS ago to come in when they had "the talk" at school. We have of course looked at books, discussed a lot and giggled about more. It was important to her. I went, venturing into the nurse's office and sitting with a couple of other moms. We joked about stealing their samples if they were good and threatened to drive over the woman who said oh-so-sweetly; "I wish I could help or give advice. I don't have cramps and I don't get PMS" She gave a dainty little shrug. She pursed her lips in a tight smile. Hmph!

I laughed and said "Hush. That's not true."

"No. Really. I don't."

One mother leaned in. My best guess is that she DID experience PMS and was filled with it right now....willing to share all that happiness with our super-mom....

A man entered. "Dangerous Doris" retracted her claws and purred. The super mom was safe for now.

"Is this where the movie is?" he stammered.

We all nodded and stared. A MAN????? Where did HE get a ticket to this show???
The girls filed in and waved to their moms. Some had purses, others put their hands to their mouths and giggled. It all stopped when they saw.....the enemy. The room became suddenly full of little pale church-mice.

The lights dimmed and the movie began. The actresses began their speeches while products/demonstrations were made. There was tension. There was embarrassment. There was a resounding "Oh Sh*t! I'm in the WRONG ROOM!" and Dad bolted to the gym where boys were writing their names in the snow.

A collective sigh filled the room. The nurse fanned herself but not with a piece of paper; with her "prop" Tensions eased. Smiles returned. The flowers bloomed.

NOW
My SON has been bothering me ever since this day. He wants to know what she talked about, what the boys talked about and what was going on. we began to delve but I didn't take it very far. It was tough for him...hearing it from mom.
"Boo, Honey, I know this is hard. I can talk to you if you want or you can talk to your Daddy. Sometimes it makes guys uncomfortable to talk..."
"No Mommy. We can talk. You and me. Anytime. We can talk....about CUB SCOUTS." he gave me his best smile hugged me and ran to play kickball.
Gotcha big man.
This bee wasn't gonna buzz.
Fair enough.
