Red Rover Red Rover! Send the Birthday boy over

It was the first (of many) as the Yayas and Gumbas begin to turn forty. This weekend was a surprise Batman/ superhero costume party extravaganza. Cheech went as Clark Kent (I as Lois). We had a sexy Dominatrix Catwoman (MEEEOOOW!!) Poison Ivy, a VERY scary Joker, PLUS one of us came as the cartoon words: BAM! POW! BOOM! just to name a few. I wanted to stuff in a few words for the guest of honor before the photos are viewed:

It's only a number.

It's one to be celebrated because to those of us who know and love you; it as a blessing granted to us as we've shared or participated in any portion of this number; this time, that you've been in existence.

What happened at this party was that people from all corners and stages in your life came together to laugh, share, and reminisce. Above that, we took MORE pictures and made MORE memories to be treasured. Because of you, in honor of your sense humor (and at the insistence of your wife of twenty years) we dressed up and were silly. We enjoyed great music and fabulous company. The strength and comfort you exude as a friend, husband, son and father enables all of us to cut loose from everyday grind and pressures. We WANTED to come and surprise you. We WANTED to hear other guests/friends/family tell stories. It was fun and at the same time sentimental to sit around joking about crushes, proms, mishaps, injuries not just of body but heart; and not only ours but our kids.

You are wonderful and I for one (though not the only) had a FABULOUS time. I am glad you are part of my life. I just wish that HONESTLY you guys would serve food next time; at least some frickin cake or something. I'm tired of doing dishes for free: will work for FOOD!!!!

It's only a number.
And in comparison to all that we anticipate experiencing together as friends; it's very small and it makes us very young. It's who you are and what we are together; all of us, that makes life this good. And dare I say....FABULOUS...no mattah whot!

Happy Birthday my friend.
Love,
Tess
