click-clack

My new "daughter" has had her adjustment issues. Coming from what we believe to be an abusive situation, she has been skittish and cautious. Poooooor dear. I've given the benefit of the doubt (which I am almost always foolish enough to do) and been....forgiving? Lenient? Ahh well, put better: a schmuck, a sucker, and gullible.

They got me SO good.

I was writing and the kids were watching AFV. I heard :

Click Clack

I got up. Winston was sitting on the comfy couch with the bunnies, jumping up with a little yip and a wag. My little loveBird was sauntering around. Exploring. Oh how nice. What a good girl. She WILL settle in. I smiled and retreated.

I got up again, thinking I had left a door open or something. Winston jumped up and yipped. Birdie scurried out of the kitchen. I became suspicious but gave the benefit of the doubt, went back to my desk and settled in.

Click Clack.

I ran from my office as Winston barked and dashed after me. Birdie bolted for the dining room (smart girl--it's the only way ALL the way through the main floor aside from going head on with me) Wee is right behind me tugging my pant legs. "play with me PLAY WITH ME!!!!" he tried to distract me but it was too late. I'd seen exACTLY what they were up to.

She had nosed open the pantry and was flipping the "cookie jar"lid pulling out snacks and sneaking off. She was leaving some for him in the laundry room. He was the friggin lookout.

I couldn't believe it. I was literally flabbergasted. My mouth just fell open as they crunched their loot as quickly as possible. Probably due to the realization that they were about to REALLY GET IT! Oooooohhhh MAN!

I swooped Winston up mid chew. He chomped faster all the while grunting and dribbling tasty tidbits on the floor that Birdie was sucking up faster than a Bissell and following me to? Yes the puppy prison. Birdie jumped up on the bed and wiggled.

"Dja like that? Didja?" she panted and slapped and the pillows. Her mouth was open like she was laughing; proud of her achievement.

Winston sulked and snorted. My shoulder was now soggy. But he was licking his chops furiously. He had succeeded....finally. (for those of you who remember: Winston and I battled over the cookie jar once before but because of his smooshy face he failed. Birdie has a pointy long snout...he's no dummy.)

Birdie wailed and chirped. She cried and begged forgiveness when she was placed in solitary confinement. Winston chuffed and rolled over, burping heartily as I slammed the door and stormed out. Once out of sight. I laughed and shook my head. That was the best.

Just a little ditty and view into my evening. Hope yours was nice. Thanks for coming over. I enjoyed our visit.
