I love this age with my kids. Their senses of humor are fabulous. The other night I received a phone call and of course, the minute I begin to speak, my kids have no less than forty things that must be discussed, pondered, fixed and signed for at that exact moment. My son was hopping around me, mouthing words and making faces. I ran away from him but he followed. I hid but he found me. Then I glared at him. He got the message: Not while I'm on the phone.
When finished, he approached me once again. He smiled and stood in front of me. "What?" I asked. "Is there something hanging out of my nose?"
"Nope." he grinned.
"Do I smell?"
"Nope." He jumped around a little and smiled wider.
"Boooooo?" I was getting edgy.
"I'm okay." he said a little sadly.
I wrinkled my nose, puzzled.
He wiggled and I followed his gaze. He was holding a paper towel to his hands.
All I saw was red: lots and lots of very deep red.
I gasped and grabbed his arms.
"Oh GOD Boo!" And in one swoop had him up on the counter, water running, yelling for Maddie to get band aids and feeling like the worst mother on planet Earth.
She stood there looking at me.
"DO IT!" I hollered.
"But Mommy..."
"DO IT! Dammit"
Then I heard a tiny giggle and an even smaller..."Gotchoooo goooood Mommy. I gotchoooo good. Tadahhhhhh" and he pulled away the towel to show me pink skin; intact and flawless. I saw the marker lying on the counter next to the paper towels. It was at this moment I questioned my CSI training skills. I should have seen it ...
I let my breath out,although I didn't realize I was holding it.
The kids were ROLLING with laughter and high fiving each other.
"Goooood one! Ohhhhh you shoulda seen yer FACE! ahahahhahahaha!"
Once again there should be theme music in my life: Wah-wah -waaaaaaaaaahhhhh. I puckered my lips and bit my cheek looking like I'd swallowed too many lemons.
"Yes. THAT was good. Not funny at all, but good."
They told Cheech when he got home. He smiled crookedly.
"Good job guys. But be careful with that. Your mom is Queen of the get backs. Trust me."
"I can wait.....forever." I smiled gently.
It was their turn to pucker.
