Off the cuff

My children had off today in celebration of Veteran's Day. My son still sometimes says veterinarians day... So I gave them a break and let them sleep in this morning. I did not go to work. I had planned some Christmas shopping and a trip to the library, lunch out and a generally fun day.

My son sprung from bed thirty minutes prior to the usual time. He got himself dressed, ate his breakfast, cleaned up his room and sat reading on his bed. He confessed that he peeked in on his sister, but when he didn't see her moving, he snuck back out...and slammed the door. Winston barked. He winced and ran away. Ben, I mean, not Winston.

Finally at 8:30a my little princess sauntered out; complete with wild hair, eye boogies and wrecked pajamas. She seemed to barely know where she was; she had that dazed look complete with sleepy-huffy breath. Ben was brushing his teeth with his spinney toothbrush and when he heard his sister's door open he was off like a shot. She made it to the top of the stairs when BOOM! There he was...in her face...singing dancing...a horrible vaudeville act all the while brushing his teeth and gargling with the "bubbles" ...(EWWWW! --haa haa--no that's gross!EWWWWW) She stiffened, clenched her fists and squinched her eyes shut. I could hear them rolling in her head. Her mouth turned down sharply and her teeth clacked together. Ben just stood there dancing or maybe they were his skateboard moves...I'm not sure. There were a lot of arm movements and jumping. Maddie haughtily shoved passed him and came to lie with me on the couch. Her little sockie feet were wiggling and she sighed.

After quality snuggle time, we got our ducks in line and ventured out. I had to stop at the office so that kye-boshed my original itinerary but I "flexed" and we decided to go to the library then head for lunch and hit shopping on the way back. WRONG. Library is closed for Veterinarian's Day my son pointed out from the back seat. We went to the park instead. It was awesome.

We teeter-tottered; two against one and since it was my favorite thing as a little girl I ROCKED ! We bounced and giggled until our fingers ached. Then we moved on to the swinging bridge and the "arm slide" (which is like sliding down the sides of a ladder: zzzzzipp! You get those little butterflies...hee hee) And of COURSE we had the jumping contest off the swings. You know you go farther if you flap your arms in mid air....right? They crawled through the hamster tunnels (not made for mommies). Then we ended up making up an obstacle course and timing each other. "One Mississippi...Two Mississippi... EHHHHH You're last!"

Our ears were stinging and our noses dripped. We went to lunch exhausted and panting.
Afterward, we headed for home to crash. We all took naps in front of the fireplace with Winston contentedly stretched across us snoring like a drunken sailor.

Everyone needs a play day; even if it's off the cuff.
Hope you schedule yours soon, you deserve it. Be well and thank you for visiting.
