Ah yes. It came and went. We were up early. I had to make bread ... For the record, I made crab stuffed puff pastries and some cheese filled mini-tarts AND prosciutto stuffed with figs and cream cheese but here's the whopper....SALAD. I MADE SALAD. (Yes! I too was enthralled and amazed. It's kind of like finally getting invited to sit at the big kids' table. ) I had to find my traditional expandable "Thanksgiving pants". You know you have em...and they are WONDERFUL.
We arrived and joined in the traditional football game. Sweet Potatoes vs. The Turkeys. (It also turned into boys against the girls) It was supposed to be two-hand touch. Brothers, sisters, husbands and wives all forgot that rule. One of us went diving for the ball but failed to realize the grass was soaking wet and slid face first. Pretty Puddin! What a catch! What a dive! THAT'S dediCATion~ but he was about five yards from the goal and it was fourth down. Hee hee. Girls get the ball. "So sorry you look like Al Jolson for nothing". Then Ben chased his sister in a huge circle and brought her down by finally catching her hair; and pulling it. The next thing we saw was Maddie's chin pointed straight up in the air and there was this "WHaasaH!" as she went down. She looked like a Muppet: arms and legs just flew straight out. Penalty flag. Girls get to keep the ball with a ten yard penalty. Then there were the "innocent" shoves out of bounds and all the trash talk. I took a body blow to the chest as I jumped to catch the ball. I knocked my daughter down to get the ball and rush a few yards before I was clotheslined; clobbered by my husband and son who gleefully yelled "SURPISE!" as I went down. I got the yardage but MAN I took a hit. I was drenched in mud and for just a few seconds, I saw stars; bright sparkly stars. The wind was knocked free from my chest. So as I lie there gaping like a guppy I was voted MVP. It made the mud in my ears and hair all worthwhile. The grandparents arrived but couldn't play due to high heels ... so we called it. Girls won. Boys pouted.
Dinner was fabulous. The appetizers were SPECTACULAR~ I love bread. (and no it WASN'T Wonder). The little ones put on a pageant that began as the tale of the first Thanksgiving and ended up a "Dance Party" complete with hoolahoop... I don't know how that happened but we all laughed and enjoyed watching. And when no one was watching, I snuck off to see if I could still hoolahoop. I used to be able to WORK that thang! I think I slipped a disk and I looked rude doing it. We became drowsy from the turkey and carb overload...I was thankful for my pants since I was still comfortable...just full.
So I hope you enjoyed your family and friends. I thank you for stopping in.
On a different note:
I will be hit or miss over the next couple of weeks. I am working on a couple of homework assignments, a couple of competitions and another project. Exciting stuff for Christmas and the New Year. I won't jinx myself but I think, I THINK, something amazing is about to happen. I'll keep you posted. C'mon along. It could be a fun ride.
